Helen is survived by her five children and five grandchildren. Helen had a joy that was contagious and befriended those all around her. In retirement, she enjoyed gardening, renovating her Nipomo property, working with children with Autism, and walking about with her pup, Josie and partner-in-crime Hardy. Helen continued her teaching career in special education at Mesa Middle School before retiring. A diagnosis is based on the level of support needed. These problems can be mild, severe, or somewhere in between. The 1990s saw Helen teaching at Ocean View and the birth of two more daughters, Kyndal and Haili. Autism spectrum disorders include social, communication, and behavioral challenges. This is higher than the 1.85 prevalence rate of children in the US with ASD. Statistics show that in the United States, 1 in 45, or 2.21 of adults over the age of 18, have autism. The individual should show at least two of these indications under these categories. Recently, however, the enactive approach for autism, coined by Klin in 2003 ( 15 ), has shown to be helpful in understanding where difficulties originate from. Helen's love for the South continued as she pursued both her Bachelor's and Master's in Teaching at Louisiana State University (LSU) at Baton Rouge. She spent summers as a child swimming, horseback riding, teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding. Helen Roe Jackson (July 2nd 1955 - January 30th, 2020), bounced into the world and into the arms of Charles, Evelyn, and later Gene Roe of Conroe, Texas. ![]()
